I tried Rollyo while I was doing SLL 2.0, and liked it, but decided to use Google custom search instead since our students are so used to Google. I used it for History Day projects. I was able to set it to search just the sites that are linked to from the National History Day page and other sites I felt confident were good quality. That way, students get to search Google the way they like to, but they are only accessing good quality sites.
I agree with Jane. If I had to choose between Rollyo and Google custom search, I'd choose Google mainly because my audience (6-8th graders) is familiar with the application. They feel like they are searching on Google but don't know it's in a controlled environment.
MaryAnn,
I was wondering what I was missing as I explored Rollyo. In fact, I decided to look to your site to see if I could gain any insight from your posting... Glad to see we agree...I will stick to backflip.com
